Robert Benefield and Minerva Bankston probably married in Heard County, Georgia. They are listed in the Heard County in 1840 census without children, and living next to Joseph Bankston. Minerva joined the Bethel Baptist Church in Heard County (formally Coweta) on the 15 day of July 1834. The 13th of December, 1846 Minerva Benefield ask for a transfer of her membership which was granted.
 
Robert and Minerva moved to Randolph County, Alabama about 1847 and raised their children in that area. Robert was buried in Randolph County in 1898 and Minerva was buried two years later in Heard County (Macedonia Baptist Church).  Minerva was the daughter of Joseph Bankston and Agnes Abbott Bankston. Joseph Bankston was the son of John Bankston and Mary Lanier.
Robert Benefield & Minerva Bankston
Joseph Bankston received his land in Heard County, Georgia from the 1827 Land Lottery Grant and moved from Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was a Baptist Minister and served the Bethel Baptist Church in Heard County.
 
One of Robert and Minerva Benefield's daughters married John S. Heard and one of William and Deborah Benefield's daughters married William J. (Jim) Young. William George Heard married Leola Young making common descendants between Robert and William Benefield.
 
Robert Benefield was sitting on a land claim in Alabama and another wanted the claim. Robert was shot and killed. Minerva went in a wagon to claim his body. The wagon turned over with them on the way back home. Minerva was hurt and remained crippled the rest of her short life.
